Paulin Roland: Counting number fields of given degree and bounded discriminant

We discuss the problem of counting number fields of given degree and bounded discriminant, with emphasis on upper bounds. The approach of Lemke Oliver and Thorne, using geometry of numbers and a little bit of algebraic geometry, is explained in detail. Finally we talk about potential ways to improve the method.
