The Hungarian Academy of Sciences organizes a number of scientific and educational events to mark the 200th anniversary of its founding. In January 2026, the Section of Mathematics takes center stage. Several researchers from Rényi Institute will give presentations.

Call for Applications: Tenure Position in Mathematics

The HUN-REN Rényi Institute invites applications for a permanent (tenure) position as Research Mathematician. The primary criteria for evaluating applications are research excellence, publication quality, and international recognition. Additional considerations include a demonstrated ability to secure research funding, to lead a research group, and to contribute actively to a scientific organization, whether within mathematics in the strict sense or in interdisciplinary fields.

János Pach, research professor at the Rényi Institute, gave an interview to Trend FM. The occasion for the conversation was that this year Maryna Viazovska, the Ukrainian mathematician who became world-famous for solving the 8- and 24-dimensional sphere packing problem, received the László Fejes Tóth Award and its accompanying medal. János Pach spoke in the program about Maryna Viazovska's achievements and career, as well as about the renowned Hungarian mathematician László Fejes Tóth.

NeurIPS is the world's leading scientific conference on machine learning and artificial intelligence. It is a huge success that the AI group of the Rényi Institute was also included in the Spotlight program, one of the featured categories of the event held in San Diego. Christ Miranda Anna, Csiszárik Adrián, Becsó Gergely, and Varga Dániel presented their results last week to Meta, Google, other leading IT companies, and the scientific elite in the field, according to an article in HVG.
