Márton Naszódi: A walk in discrete geometry – from random to deterministic and back.

We will visit a number of questions involving convex bodies in d-dimensional space, and see how probabilistic arguments and combinatorial ideas may help to approach them. The topics include covering problems (how many translates of a given body cover another body), and approximation of convex bodies by polytopes. The talk is aimed at a general audience, students in any of our math programs are warmly welcome.
