Description
The Prym map associates to a finite morphism between curves a polarised abelian variety, its Prym variety.
The structure of the Prym map for coverings of degree d>2, unlike for double coverings, is much less understood. In this talk we consider étale cyclic coverings of degree d over hyperelliptic curves of genus g and show that the corresponding Prym map from the moduli space of such coverings into the moduli space of polarised abelian varieties of dimension (d-1)(g-1) with polarisation type (1,…1, d,…,d), is generically injective and even injective if d is not a power of an odd prime.
