The conference will bring together senior, mid-career and junior researchers in fields related to smooth 4-manifold theory to discuss open questions, new developments and future directions. The conference will provide a stimulating setting for the interaction between the three groups of researchers, particularly well suited for reviewing the developments in the field over the last couple of decades, considering old open problems, and discussing new approaches. As part of the conference we also celebrate the work of Ron Fintushel and Ron Stern which has been very influential in the development of the field, on the occasion of their 70th birthdays.
Format
Each day of the conference will include plenary lectures by prominent mathematicians in 4-manifold theory and related areas of low-dimensional topology. Additional features of the conference include:
- Contributed lectures: Each day of the conference (except Wednesday) will include shorter talks by junior researchers.
At this point all available spaces for contributed lectures have been filled. - Open problem session: The last time slot on Thursday afternoon will be devoted to description and discussion of open problems in 4-manifold theory, moderated by Ron Fintushel and Ron Stern. Participants are encouraged to contribute questions or problems!
- Free afternoon: The schedule has been left open on Wednesday afternoon to allow participants the opportunity to explore the beautiful and historic city of Dubrovnik.
Logistics
Participants are encouraged to make travel and lodging reservations as soon as is practical, since Dubrovnik is a popular tourist destination and hotel rooms can become scarce. For more information please follow the "Practicalities" link on the left.
Limited funding is available to help defray participants' expenses. To request funding, which is intended mainly for junior mathematicians without other sources of support, please make the appropriate indications on the registration form. (Note that at this point all available funds have been allocated.)
