Restaurants
There are several restaurants and cafés within walking distance of the
Rényi Institute. This is only a small sample of them.
- Fast food places on Múzeum Körút
Near Kálvin tér, an inexpensive and friendly Turkish self-service
restaurant.
The Chinese place near Hotel Astoria has more than acceptable food.
The nearby Príma Pék sells good croissants, sandwiches and coffee.
- Pesti Lámpás Étterem
Popular place with good and fast service, in one of the nicest buildings
of Budapest. Five minutes walk form the Institute.
Károlyi Mihály utca 12.
- Centrál Kévéház
One of the old fashioned coffee houses. During the 1930's this was the
favourite plase of Hungarian writers. You can work hours here with a
cup of coffee and a piece of cake.
Károlyi Mihály utca 9.
- Ruben
A popular place with good value Hungarian cooking. Service may be slow
sometimes, but the food is nice. Two steps from the Rényi Institute.
Magyar utca 12-14.
- Xo Bistro
In the same building as the University cefeteria, a good upscale restaurant.
Rákóczi út 5.
- Gerlóczy Café & Restaurant
Nice upscale restaurant with an open-air café, "the most perfect slice of Paris in
Budapest." It also offers accomodation.

- Halkalas
Nice, inexpensive, self-service freshwater fish in various guises.
Veres Pálné utca 33.
- Kőleves (Stone Soup)
In the Jewish disctrict, popular especially with young people. Quality
Hungarian and international food at reasonable prices.
Kazinczy utca 41.
- Romkocsmák (Ruin Pubs)
Not that they were a financial ruin but they are situated in abandoned old
buidings or courtyards. Always full with on international young crowd in the
evenings, most of these are centered around Kazinczy utca. Szimplakert
and Mika Tivadar are among the oldest ones.
